Canadus Battery Reconditioner Yields Environmental Benefits for Commercial Vehicles

Electrical System Efficiency Improves Fuel Efficiency

In the US, when lead acid batteries die, 96% are recycled to make new batteries in secondary smelters. Lead from recycled batteries only supply about 50% of the lead needed to make new batteries, the balance coming from primary mining, smelting and refining of lead ores. While battery recycling uses about half the energy than lead produced from ores, both processes have a significant negative impact on our environment. With a new 12-volt battery containing 24 lbs of lead on average, consider the following environmental benefits from doubling the life of a single battery:

  • Conservation of natural resources: 24 fewer pounds of lead will be consumed
  • Less disruption of virgin land caused by mining activities: 1,000 fewer pounds of land disturbed.
  • Energy resources conserved : 17 pounds of fossil fuel will be saved

Reduce Carbon Emissions

In the example above, by doubling the life of 1-battery, 46 fewer pounds of carbon dioxide will be generated by not having to manufacture its replacement. As well, if operating fuel efficiency is improved as outlined above, a further 4,100 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced annually for each heavy-duty truck using a Canadus Battery Reconditioner.
